Hong Kong holds a wife-carrying competition
November 21st, 2008 by Admin
CHAN: Hong Kong had its first wife-carrying championship to celebrate Valintine's Day. Strange as it sounds, this is actually a tradition that dates back to 19th century Finland when bandits stole women from neighboring villages. Let's see how it went over in Hong Kong. STORY: It was a marriage of sport, fun and romance for the 15 couples who took part in the competition. The lovers -- young and old , hopped onto one another's backs hundreds of people looked on. The men came in everything from superhero outfits to Chinese wedding costumes. They dashed over obstacles and scooped up roses while their wives held on to them. The oldest contestants were 70-year old Wong Chi-hung and his 60-year old wife, who've been married for 36 years. The winners were Michael and Cora Fung, fittingly dressed as superman and wonderwoman. [Cora Fung, competition winner]: "If we have any arguments, the most important thing is to be understanding, but my husband really supports me." They said that running around piggy-back, like marriage, had its challenges. [Michael Fung]: "The most difficult thing was that it was a bit heavy and balancing on the beam was quite tricky. It was exciting." Besides winning a trophy, the Fungs took home a pair of airline tickets to Shanghai. PLease have look more information

Harry Chapin sings 1981 BANANAS Live
November 21st, 2008 by Admin
I redid this so it's all in one. "It was just after dark when the truck started down the hill that leads into Scranton Pennsylvania. Carrying thirty thousand pounds of bananas. Carrying thirty thousand pounds (hit it Big John) of bananas. He was a young driver, just out on his second job. And he was carrying the next day's pasty fruits for everyone in that coal-scarred city where children play without despair in backyard slag-piles and folks manage to eat each day about thirty thousand pounds of bananas. Yes, just about thirty thousand pounds (scream it again, John) . He passed a sign that he should have seen, saying "shift to low gear, a fifty dollar fine my friend." He was thinking perhaps about the warm-breathed woman who was waiting at the journey's end. He started down the two mile drop, the curving road that wound from the top of the hill. He was pushing on through the shortening miles that ran down to the depot. Just a few more miles to go, then he'd go home and have her ease his long, cramped day away. and the smell of thirty thousand pounds of bananas. Yes the smell of thirty thousand pounds of bananas. He was picking speed as the city spread its twinkling lights below him. But he paid no heed as the shivering thoughts of the nights delights went through him. His foot nudged the brakes to slow him down. But the pedal floored easy without a sound. He said "Christ!" It was funny how he had named the only man who could save him now. He was trapped inside a dead-end hellslide, riding on his fear-hunched back was every one of those yellow green I'm telling you thirty thousand pounds of bananas. Yes, there were thirty thousand pounds of bananas. He barely made the sweeping curve that led into the steepest grade. And he missed the thankful passing bus at ninety miles an hour. And he said "God, make it a dream!" as he rode his last ride down. And he said "God, make it a dream!" as he rode his last ride down. And he sideswiped nineteen neat parked cars, clipped off thirteen telephone poles, hit two houses, bruised eight trees, and Blue-Crossed seven people. it was then he lost his head, not to mention an arm or two before he stopped. And he smeared for four hundred yards along the hill that leads into Scranton, Pennsylvania. All those thirty thousand pounds of bananas. You know the man who told me about it on the bus, as it went up the hill out of Scranton, Pennsylvania, he shrugged his shoulders, he shook his head, and he said (and this is exactly what he said) "Boy that sure must've been something. Just imagine thirty thousand pounds of bananas. Yes, there were thirty thousand pounds of mashed bananas. Of bananas. Just bananas. Thirty thousand pounds. of Bananas. not no driver now. Just bananas!" From Greatest Stories Live: Ending #1 Yes, we have no bananas, We have no bananas today (Spoken: And if that wasn't enough) Yes, we have no bananas, Bananas in Scranton, P A From Greatest Stories Live: Ending #2: A woman walks into her room where her child lies sleeping, and when she sees his eyes are closed, she sits there, silently weeping, and though she lives in Scranton, Pennsylvania She never ever eats ... Policeman Faces Death
November 21st, 2008 by Admin
This is the moment when a heroic policeman came within inches of a crazed knifeman plunging a six-inch blade into his neck. Only the lightning reactions of officer Jon Croft prevented paranoid schizophrenic Jason Lord driving the knife into the policeman's flesh. PC Croft said that he felt lucky to be alive after he managed to grab Lord's wrist and pin him back as colleagues leapt to his defence at Paignton custody centre. CCTV footage of the attack came to light when Lord was sentenced at Exeter Crown Court yesterday. He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two charges of carrying an offensive weapon. Judge Graham Cottle said: "This was a potentially murderous attack on a police officer. That knife would have been in the officer's neck had it not been for his incredibly quick reactions and those of his colleagues. They saved a tragedy from happening." Lord had previous convictions for carrying a knife, assault, racist violence, vandalism and robbery. He was detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act. He will be released from a secure hospital only with the Home Secretary's approval. The court was told PC Croft was part of a team of two who attended Paignton Esplanade in August last year after reports that Lord had been knocked over by cyclists taking part in a race. Witnesses said he was carrying a Samurai sword. The two policeman quickly confirmed that Lord had the weapon and arrested the 22-year-old student, of no fixed abode. The officers handcuffed the suspect and conducted a brief search before transporting him to Paignton police station. It was in the tiny custody room, which measures just 4ft by 2ft, that PC Croft began to carry out a more thorough search. He removed the handcuffs, demanding that Lord place his hands on the counter. But while he was searching Lord's pockets, the offender swiftly drew the blade from his waistband and swung around at the officer. Speaking after the hearing, PC Croft, 42, said the attack happened at "bullet" speed. He added: "Everything was in slow motion. "My training teaches me to move back in a situation like that, but because of the confined space, I didn't have that option. "You make those split-second risk assessments, and this time I was lucky." PC Croft said he felt uneasy during the search: "I was behind him and there was something unusual about him. He kept wanting to drop his hands. As I was searching him, he just spun around. "It was a very fast risk assessment. I realised that if I moved back, he was going to get me. I could do nothing but block and tackle." He went on: "As I grabbed him, I can remember trying to articulate a word to let people know what was happening, but I just let out a roar." He praised the quick reflexes of his colleagues, one of whom vaulted over the counter and down a 5ft drop to help PC Croft to pin his attacker to the wall. Now PC Croft and two of his colleagues, Detention Officer John Pratt and Custody Sergeant Ian Symons, have been recommended for commendations. Yesterday, Torbay Chief Inspector Stuart Lander said the narrow escape highlighted the dangers that front-line police officers faced every day. He added: "Policing can be a difficult and dangerous occupation. Officers don't always get the credit for the kind of role they fulfil. These circumstances quite clearly demonstrate that on occasion, police officers get put in harm's way in order to keep our community safe. "We are extremely proud of what Jon and his colleagues did in demonstrating a very professional response to what was a life-threatening situation. Thankfully, such incidents are not that common." John Smith, chairman of the Devon and Cornwall Police Authority, yesterday said that the everyday bravery of officers was sometimes overlooked. "I have often attended award ceremonies for headline-grabbing rescues where officers have stopped someone from drowning or pulled a casualty from a burning building. "But the public is not as good at recognising the day-to-day level of heroism. If a police officer stops a car, for example, they don't know what kind of situation they are walking into. That takes something pretty special." to see the video footage
THE WORLDS BIGGEST PLANES!!

The Antonov An-225 Mriya, (NATO reporting name: Cossack) is a strategic airlift transport airplane that was built by Antonov (ASTC). It was designed for the Soviet space program as a replacement for the Myasishchev M-4 'Bison' for the purpose of carrying the Energia rocket boosters and to also be able to carry the Buran space shuttle in piggy-back mode much the same as the American Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. The An-225 first flew on 21 December, 1988. Only one An-225 is currently in service. It is commercially available for carrying ultra heavy and/or oversize freight. It can carry up to 227 metric tons (250 short tons) of cargo. A second An-225 was partially built in connection with the Soviet space program but was never finished. This unit is finally nearing completion as of 2005. The construction of further units will depend upon demand for oversize cargolifting. At 600 metric tons, the An-225 is the world's heaviest aircraft, although its wingspan is less than that of the "Spruce Goose", Howard Hughes' flying boat, which never flew more a single, short, low-altitude test flight. Both the An-124 and An-225 are larger than the C-5 Galaxy, the largest aircraft in the U.S. inventory. The An-225 is also larger than the Airbus A380. In November of 2004, FAI placed the An-225 in the Guinness Book of Records for its 240 records and overall outstanding aerial performance. The funniest 6 minutes you will ever see! Russian carrier footage MUST SEE
November 21st, 2008 by Admin
Su-33 and "Admiral Kuznetzov".One of the best videos you ll ever see.amazing fOOTAGE.MUST SEE!!!The Sukhoi Su-33 (NATO reporting name 'Flanker-D') is a naval military aircraft produced by Russian firm Sukhoi in 1982 for aircraft carriers. It is a derivative of the Sukhoi Su-27 and was initially known as the Su-27K. The main difference from the Su-27 is that Su-33s can operate from aircraft carriers. Moreover, unlike the Su-27, the Su-33 can be refueled during flight. The Su-33 first flew in May 1985, and entered service in the Russian Navy in 1994. An air regiment comprising 24 fighters of the type was formed up on the Russian Navy's only operating aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov.Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov (Russian: Адмирал флота Советского Союза Кузнецов, originally named Tbilisi and then Leonid Brezhnev) is an aircraft carrier (heavy aircraft carrying cruiser (TAVKR) in Russian classification) serving as the flagship of the Russian Navy. She was originally commissioned in the Soviet Navy, and was intended to be the lead ship of her class, but the only other ship of her class, Varyag, has never been commissioned and was sold to the People's Republic of China by Ukraine under the condition she would never be refitted for combat.Kuznetsov was named after the Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov. While designated an aircraft carrier by the West, the design of the Admiral Kuznetsov' class implies a mission different from that of either the United States Navy's carriers or those of the Royal Navy. The term used by her builders to describe the Russian ships is tyazholiy avianesushchiy kreyser (TAKR or TAVKR) - "heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser" - intended to support and defend strategic missile-carrying submarines, surface ships, and maritime missile-carrying aircraft of the Russian fleet. This designation allows the Soviet/Russian navy to circumvent the refusal by Turkey to let aircraft carriers pass the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus between the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Fixed-wing aircraft on Admiral Kuznetsov are essentially constrained to air superiority operations. The carrier also carries aircraft for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations, as well as anti-ship missiles. The limiting of aircraft to only air-to-air operations is a result of the carrier's lack of catapults. With the relatively short length of a carrier versus an airstrip, an aircraft weighted down by bombs which are much heavier than missiles; cannot gain enough velocity to get off the deck without aid. Large aircraft armed for strike mission launched from a catapult, like the F/A-18E will often make a short momentary descent. The catapults however impart enough velocity that when combined with the aircaft's engines allow it to accelerate above its stall speed before crashing into the sea. (Unarmed or very lightly armed aircraft however are generally light enough to immediately ascend)On September 27, 2006 it was announced that Admiral Kuznetsov will return to the Northern Fleet by the end of the year. The ship will undergo another modernization refit, in an attempt to correct some of its many technical issues. Admiral Vladimir Masorin, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, also stated that several Su-33 fighters assigned to the aircraft carrier would return to the ship after undergoing maintenance and refits of their own.

Wreckage of Crashed B-25 Mitchell Bomber - Part 1
November 21st, 2008 by Admin
Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uig4-iuUjus http://www.mybushwhacker.com 1944. The Third Reich. The United States airforce launches a campaign of precision daylight bombing missions on targets within Germany's mighty industrial complex while the British Royal airforce concentrates on carpet-bombing German civilian targets during the night. On the ground, the allied advance continues eastward towards the heart of the Nazi war machine. Hidden in secret cashes around Berlin, invading allied troops discover vast amounts of war booty, pillaged and looted by the German Military from all over Europe. A United States airforce B-25 Mitchell bomber survives the anti aircraft fire and swarms of night-fighters in the skies over Germany and is sold to the Canadian military after World War 2. The twin-engine bomber is converted into a cargo plane by the Canadian airforce for the soul purpose of carrying valuable military cargo. Stationed just outside of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the B-25 now proudly shows the air force insignia of Canada on her wings. On the morning of the fifth of January, 1953, ground crews spot a highly sensitive cargo being secretly loaded by special personnel into the bomb bay of the B-25. They are strongly advised not to talk about what they witnessed. A flight plan is filed outlining the journey to Sea Island Airport, just outside of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The cargo manifest lists the cargo hold as empty, and the flight is logged as a routine training mission. Captain Jack McIntosh is pilot and is a decorated war veteran of many bombing missions in the skies over Nazi Germany. Information is leaked that the B-25 was carrying eight hundred thousand dollars in cash and gold bullion to pay military personnel stationed on the west coast. Marked with swastikas, also on board were crates that were from Adolf Hitler's personal hoard of the spoils of his war. Part of Hitler's personal hoard and allegedly aboard the ill fated B-25, was the Spear of Destiny; the Roman spear that pierced the side of Jesus Christ as he hung from the cross as described in John 19 31 37. It is said that who ever holds the Spear of Destiny shall rule the world; good or evil. In 1938 Adolf Hitler ordered an armoured company of SS troops to seize the Spear of Destiny from a museum in Vienna when he invaded Austria. The spear was then kept in a specially built underground bomb proof bunker until finally, at the end of World War 2, the historical religious relic was found in St. Katherine's Church, Nuremberg, Germany by invading American troops and returned to Vienna, Austria. Fanatical Nazi Zealots claim that the Spear of Destiny that the United States returned to the Hofburg Museum in Vienna was a fake and that the real Spear of Destiny was flown out of Germany by the United States airforce. The weather forecast for January 15th, 1953, called for clear skies during the day with squalls and storms in the evening. At the time of the crash the skies were clear. The official explanation for the crash states that freezing rain jammed the bomber's wing flaps. According to this government-supplied theory the plane, caught in an ice storm and unable to maintain altitude due to iced up wing flaps, hit the lip of a ridge, ripping open the fuselage and spilling cargo across the top of the ridge as well as into a canyon below. The cash, gold and spoils of war may still be within the debris-field. If the wing flaps were frozen and the bomber was struggling to maintain altitude it would have been under full throttle and the propellers would have been spinning at maximum R P M at the time of impact. At the time of the crash the bomber's propellers were in a feathered position and were not spinning, as can be clearly seen in this photo taken in 2004. The wreckage did not burn, indicating that the fuel tanks were empty and the engines were not running when the aircraft slammed into the high-altitude ridge over Pitt Lake on its final approach to the Sea Island airport. Was the lack of fuel deliberate sabotage, or human error? Hours after the crash a classic South-East storm blew into the coastal mountains around Vancouver, dumping snow on the wreckage and creating blizzard conditions at higher altitudes. The initial search was immediately called off as survival in the open after a severe plane crash was impossible. The following April, an extensive search by military personnel successfully located the wreckage and removed the bodies. The military search and rescue personnel piled other remains, including parachutes, suitcases, jackets, boots, personal possessions, maps and classified documents, and burned them on-site. They also left an aluminium plaque stating that the wreckage was already located and not to report it. When an aircraft is carrying valuable cargo they carry these plaques on board, according to an ex-air force officer. Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uig4-iuUjus
The Japanese Naked Festival - The Hadaka Matsuri

ALL BODY HAIR SHAVED!!! Don't forget to rate and comment! --------------------------- I talk more about this festival in a vlog here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NCBzJmh3sc (It's my casual channel: gimmeaflakeman) ------------------------ My brother made this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t1LdD1zsiY (I know he makes better videos than me!) --------------------------- Japanese notes: hadaka=naked matsuri=festival yatai=food stand iidesuyo=go ahead abunai=dangerous otoko=man dame=bad meiwaku=troublesome or "in the way" ------------------------- The small town of Konomiya, part of Inazawa city, just outside Nagoya witnesses one of Japan's most famous hadaka matsuri or naked festivals. The raucous festival dates back to 767 when the local governor of Owari (present-day Aichi Prefecture) instigated the festival in an attempt to ward off a plague epidemic sweeping the country. The festival has a number of stages. On the second day of the lunar new year a post marked with the words "naoi shinji" is set up outside Konomiya Shrine. An hour later at 10am a group of applicants arrive in the hope of being chosen as that year's shin-otoko or ("god-man"). To be selected as shin-otoko is considered a great honor, though a dubious one in most people's eyes in view of what is to follow. A huge 4-ton rice-cake (mochi) is prepared and is presented to the shin-otoko on the eve of the main festival. For three days prior to the start of the matsuri the shin-otoko is kept alone, enclosed in a small hall in Konomiya Shrine. He is fed only rice-gruel and water and has all his body hair shaved off as part of the purification rite. The festival begins in mid-afternoon on the 13th day of the lunar new year when thousands of men dressed only in loincloths carry a bamboo pole covered with pieces of paper carrying the excuses of people who couldn't make it to the festival that year. When the shin-otoko appears from the shrine the assembled men - many of them aged 23 or 42 (ages considered unlucky or yakudoshi) - converge on the shin-otoko in an effort to touch him and thus pass on their bad luck and so rid themselves of evil. The shin-otoko's guards, who attempt to stop him getting killed in the crush, throw cold water on the crowds to help cool things down. The event can be dangerous and people have suffered injuries in the past. At 3am the next morning the shin-otoko carrying a "mud cake" on his back - symbolizing bad luck and calamity is chased away from the shrine and the mud cake is buried by the shrine priests. This part of the festival is known as yonaoi shinji. Later that morning the large rice cake presented earlier is cut up and distributed to worshippers. Eating the rice cake is supposed to ward off illness and misfortune. (Taken from http://japanvisitor.blogspot.com/2007/03/konomiya-hadaka-festival.html) Want more info? Do a google search or... Bismarck long Version
November 21st, 2008 by Admin
Powered by http://www.silent-hunter3-modzone.de INTRODUCTION: "Bismarck" is filmed using Silent Hunter 3 PC Game. It tells the famous story of KMS Bismarck and a visual account of major stages in Operation Rheinubung. THANKS: I would like to thank the Subsim.com community and mod makers who made and already great looking game even better. Mods I've used are listed in the end of the movie. CCIP Camera Mod deserves a special mention because it allows for very nice shots that give a true sense of scale when necessary. PRODUCTION: I've used SH3's mission editor to recreate every episode shown in the movie down to the minute, in order to make it look as accurately as possible, though of course I don't think it's realistic to get all things correctly. The following moments are shown: - Leaving of Gdynia port - Bismarck, Prinz Eugen and convoy ships and mine sweepers off the island of Rugen - The Great Belt and sighting of Bismarck squadron by Swedish aircraft carrying cruiser Goetland - Bergen fjord station - Arctic Circle Navigation, first shots in anger at a shadowing British cruiser - The Battle of Denmark Strait - The separation of Bismarck and Prinz Eugen - Swordfish attack - The Sinking of Bismarck For video recording I've used Fraps 1.9D for better frame rates (even though my machine is not very powerful, so sometimes you get some frame rate drops - sorry..); Adobe Premier Pro 7.0 for video editing and post production effects; Jet Audio 6 for sound recordings. SOUND: I've used the music as soundtrack by Howard Shore from the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Hans Zimmerman from Gladiator, plus some stock game sounds. RESEARCH First and foremost, http://www.bismarck-class.dk/ was the website I've used extensively for the movie. From events listed, down to paint schemes, it was most useful. I painted Bismarck, Prinz Eugen and Home Fleet warships myself, in order to get them to look more close to the real life counterparts. HISTORY Bismarck was meant to break into the Atlantic and raid commerce shipping lines. She put to see on May 18th, 1941 and travelled through the Great Belt (Denmark) and into Norway - where after being repainted (swastika signs covered and Baltic camouflage painted over), together with Prinz Eugen - went to the Atlantic taking the northern route through the Denmark Strait between Iceland and Greenland. The Home Fleet command were aware of those plans, and after being alarmed by Swedish aircraft carrying cruiser Goetland, the chase had begun. On May 24th, HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales supported by cruisers Norfolk and Suffolk attacked Bismarck and Prinz Eugen in the early hours and in foggy conditions. The battle was short, and resulted in HMS Hood being blown up by one of Bismarck's salvos, resulting in a great loss of life and made the matter of destroying Bismarck all that more important for the British command. Having sustained damage in the Battle of Denmark Strait, Bismarck was forced to let Prinz Eugen go while she tried to out manoeuvre her pursuers. On May 26th, she received what many consider a fatal hit, when the torpedo explosion jammed her rudder, making her hard to steer. On the morning of the 27th, the British battleships have caught up and sunk Bismarck in a battle that lasted 2 hours and also resulted in big crew losses of Bismarck. Operation Rheinubung failed and the role of hunting down convoys was left primarily for the U-boats. LEGAL STUFF/DISCLAIMERS: This work must not be used for profit of any kind! 'Allo 'Allo! Season1 Pilot (PART 1)
November 21st, 2008 by Admin
First aired: 12/30/1982 We meet René Artois, owner of a small café in the French village of Nouvion during WWII. René leads a simple life and is married to the tone-deaf Edith (who nevertheless loves to sing) and at the same time carrying on secret affairs with his two waitresses, Yvette and Maria. At the same time, René tries to maintain a good relationship with the occupying German officers - offering them the bedroom services of his waitresses in exchange for food and supplies. All of this quickly changes when Michelle Dubois, a member of the French Resistance, arrives with two British airmen that must be kept hidden at René's café. A radio (to contact the Resistance) is also installed. Meanwhile, the Germans - Colonel Von Strohm, Captain Geering, Lt. Gruber and Private Helga - have been busy getting their hands on the town's remaining valuables such as the first cuckoo clock ever made and the painting "The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies" by Van Clomp. However, simple life is not to last for the Germans either as the ruthless Herr Flick of the Gestapo shows up. Hurriedly, the Germans form an alliance with René and decide to hide the cuckoo clock and the painting at the café to sell them after the war is over.
